On August 8 – 10, thirty five TBirds and Ann Arbor Ski Club friends head up to Camp Grayling, for a weekend of relaxation, golf, and even canoeing.

A very sunny and beautiful Friday had about 12 golfers and the rest of the early campers enjoying the day. After a light dinner of brats and burgers, and cold salads. The campers headed to the lake for a bonfire, and a nice display of fireworks. Thanks to Steve Vollmer, who always does a great job with the fireworks.

Saturday and Sunday, both starting with a great breakfast. Bacon, Sausage,French toast, fruit, and Mikey’s excellent scrambled eggs, with the works in them. Not bad for camping.

Fortunately, it only rained twice, and was brief, delaying Saturday’s golf and canoeing by an hour.  Even though a little late, the canoeing turned out to be excellent, and some golfers got 9 holes in before dinner. Saturday dinner was great also. With a choice of Chicken or Steak, there was,  corn on the cob, twice baked potatoes, salad, bread, and even dessert. Ice cream with various toppings, apple pie and brownies. Once again, not bad for camping.

Because of the windy and cool weather at the lake, the fireworks were canceled. Instead, most of the group gathered around the campfire at 2 Palm Tree Lane, swapping stories and listening to classic rock and roll.

As a trip leader, I would like to thank all the volunteers for helping  out for all the cooking, cleaning and prep work. There are a few people who worked a lot, and I would like to give a special thanks to Arlene Bellas and Dick DeFranceschi, the youngsters of our group, for all your hard work. Thanks to Ellen Webber and to a few of our cooks who cooked almost all of the meals: Head chef  Dan Larsh, Bob Grieve, and Mikey Baran.

Lastly, I would like to thank my fellow trip leaders for this successful  adventure. Pat Jutras, Gene VanGemert, and our fearless leader Shirley Cookson.
