First Trip of the Season

The TBirds left for Breckenridge on December 6 and had a wonderful
flight with Frontier Airlines; I didn’t even feel the plane land in
Denver. The group then
boarded the Gray Line Van to take us to Breckenridge.
Our Russian shuttle driver stopped for us to pick up beverages
and food for our stay in Breckenridge, and when we finally arrived he
had to have a crow bar to open the frozen back door that had our luggage
and skis. We arrived in very
cold weather (-10 deg); my coat was even frozen by the time we got to
our condo. Thank goodness
the temp came up to the 30s the next day for the first day of skiing
which made everyone very happy. On the first day of skiing for the group Tami S. (prior board member) had the group’s first mishap while taking the chairlift at Breckenridge, she shutdown the chairlift. You will have to ask Tami about it, maybe that is why the group did not see Tami & Steve skiing after that. I know that they met the locals and did sightseeing and shopping. We were very lucky on the choices I made for our group dinners. The first night at the Tai Pei Tokyo Restaurant we ran into fellow TBirds that were there on their own (ski instructors from the club). I want to thank Bruce for he picked up the tab for our dinner that night. Our next night we had dinner at the Kenosha Steakhouse and a couple of our group got into a stimulating political debate that one of the participants (Bruce) did not even notice that we had not received our dinner yet while everyone else was finishing their meal. Our last night we finished with having dinner at the MI Casa restaurant and we had wonderful Mexican food with the ambiance of the restaurant and the camaraderie of the group with reminiscing some of the events that occurred during our trip this week. I think Tami enjoyed the food the most we couldn’t get over the more and more that she asked for hotter and more spice of the hot sauces to go with her meal. My roommates Ben Northrop and Bruce Schofield were great roomies during this trip. Bruce made coffee every morning for us plus kept the condo fireplace going. The first day I will remember how Bruce couldn’t find his lift ticket and finally found it with his skiing apparel. The only little drawback for our trip was the bus company having us leave Breckenridge early so that our group had to wait at the Denver airport for three hours before our flight. I made sandwiches, had fruit and water, plus Tami had things to pass out to the group also, so we had lunch before we checked through security and I think Jim read most of his book in waiting for the flight while the rest of us did a little shopping at the airport. Lo and behold it was time to fly home. With even a small group we had fun and very good camaraderie. |
