TBird Picnics – More of the same!!!!

The Thunderbird Ski Club’s second picnic of the summer stayed true to form, holding the rainy theme from last year’s event at this same time.  Gratefully, Ford Field’s pavilion cover held back the rain.  Even so, the heavy downpours and cooler temps were hardly noticed by the good-sized crowd.  Neither did they put a damper on the good time had by all attending.  The burgers, dogs, brats, salads and fine desserts were appreciated by the crowd, and the sloppy joes were especially tasty.  Add a mix of some really great people, and the fun and good times also held true to form.  The word “perennial” comes to mind.....yup.....year after year after year........great events continue to be churned out by the under-appreciated volunteers of our great club!

And, perennially, I get so excited every July.  The unveiling of the details of the upcoming season’s ski trips generate more electricity in the air than just the food, fun and drinks to be had.  It’s great to watch everyone trying to find out which trips their friends might be thinking about, and then comparing notes as to what each ski area might have to offer.   Those are difficult decisions.....makes life tough, doesn’t it??!!

Special thanks go out to the TBird Race Team and the Instructors for hosting the party and making sure that the plates and the pitchers were full.  Again, I’m amazed at all of the work that happens, seemingly like magic, to make these events so successful.  But, beyond the sponsors pitching in to make these events so successful, that many other people work very, very hard in the background.  Please know that all that work is greatly appreciated and, of course, the Board deserves a heap of thanks, too.

The next picnic is on Wednesday, August 5th, in Hines Park at the Nankin Mills picnic area, and begins @ 6pm.  This one’s sponsored by the club’s Theater Group.  Come on out to see what great get-togethers these picnics really are......don’t dare miss it!!  And, there’s never been an easier way to meet new people in the club than to show up between 5 and 5:30pm to pitch in with the picnic’s setup!
