A Pier 500 Gathering

This past season has been a bit challenging with the rather unusual weather, so our Thunderbirds were ready to gather for the first social of the year on Wednesday, June 18th at Pier 500 in Wyandotte. Being relaxed is a state of mind and a state of being.  Here is where the “socials” are an important function for our T’Bird family; we were just eager to congregate and enjoy each other’s company for the most part.

In my mind I pictured the warm sunshine on our faces with a nice drink in hand and the sound of waves over water in the pleasant June atmosphere.  Well, the weather was pleasant, not too warm or windy and somewhat cloudy (a bit chilly), but overall a nice day moving into the evening hours.  I am happy to say the turn out was great with 60+ members showing up to meet and greet one another.

Since our last social there in 2007, Pier 500 had constructed a canopy over half of the outside deck area nearest the building which cut down the wind and so the majority of T’Birds sat and conversed outdoors on the deck while enjoying cocktails and dinner specials.  Some of us went to the upper deck and enjoyed the view.  If the weather was warmer, I supposed many more would have stayed on the upper deck.

On Wednesdays it is Karaoke night at Pier 500, but I didn’t hear any future American Idols trying out for their big chance.   We passed out glow bracelets for everyone to wear thinking it would get dark quickly, but honestly the clouds didn’t overcast too intensely.

Thanks to all of you who, even though uncertain weather-wise, came out to make this first social of the year a successful one.  I did notice that most of you were smiling and having a good time…and that’s what it’s all about, right?  Until next time, keep smiling!  and see you at the Pier (maybe boating)!!!
