We
enjoyed a few laughs at our first meeting of the season, Sports Fans
Night, at Hawthorne.
Most of us proved to be fans of Detroit pro teams or of Michigan
University teams, but a few folks showed support for
“other” teams, such as Notre Dame!
Carolyne James was even supporting a coven of
witches! Dinner was served early and the staff kept refilling the pasta
and salad bowls until everyone had enough (or more than enough) to eat!
We also had enough wine, since Kathy negotiated a very good price
of $3 a glass!
Doris Byrnes, in keeping with the theme of the
evening, brought goodies in green and white and maize and blue.
Bob Grieve also brought goodies for those with tickets for Jersey
Boys. Dick was there with
tickets for the Whalers game.
If you didn’t get yours, you will be missing a fun event.
Our Welcoming Committee was on top of things, as usual,
and Phyllis Bendry was the lucky winner of the 50/50 draw.
She almost got a new coat too!
Kathy did an excellent job filling in for our missing
pres., and following the meeting we enjoyed a few laughs as we
participated in the Hockey Crossword Competition.
You really did not have to be a sports fan, because most of the
questions were not about hockey. Competitors poured over their puzzles
with enthusiasm. The
members of the winning team: Maureen, Jim, Diane, Dick, Rex, Renee,
Sheryl and Patty were rewarded with Baby Ruth bars but someone ended up
with most of the loot! Rex?
We hope to see you at Hawthorne on Nov. 4th for
the battle of the big ones:
MSU vs UofM.
