The
Thunderbird Ski Club held its final Board of Directors nomination
general meeting at the Hawthorne Valley Country Club on Wednesday
February 17th. The theme of the event was “Valentines Day”
and we enjoyed meatless spaghetti (it was Ash Wednesday) and salad along
with some great drink specials. The turn out was light (30), as it often
is in mid winter.
I was nominated at a previous meeting which I did not attend and I
accepted the nomination as Treasurer for 2010-2011 at this meeting. I
nominated Gary Green to replace the irreplaceable Evelyn Fitzgerald as
Recording Secretary and he accepted the nomination via phone the
following day. That completed the nominations for the upcoming year and
since no offices were contested, Dave Bagwell, chairman of the
nominating committee, (thanks again Dave) declared the nominations
closed and introduced the next board to the membership.
This is my fourth year on the board and I hope to find successors to the
current board so that, if we wish, we can take a rest next year. While
being on the board is a rewarding experience it does wear you down.
There are many responsibilities and if you are diligent in carrying out
these responsibilities you don’t want to do it for too long or you can
burn out. Burn out is not good since we need ongoing leadership
in all offices and as event/trip leaders. It is time for you to start
thinking about joining the board. Try hosting an event and working with
the board in the upcoming year and see how rewarding the experience can
be.
I just read through the new Towline and I have to say, this is one great
club. I have been approached by several other club presidents with
comments about what a great job we do with all of the events and the
monthly Towline that keeps everyone current on all of our activities. It
takes a lot of people to make this a successful club and we hope that
you all continue to support our meetings, picnics, ski trips, golf
outings and all of the other events we provide throughout the year.
